Top Comments- 7/08/08 One Week To Go Edition

Tue Jul 08, 2008 at 07:00:33 PM PDT

Hey! Here at Top Comments we strive to recognize and promote the talent of this community by highlighting outstanding comments found throughout the day by the diarist, and more importantly through nominations made at TopComments at gmail dot com by your fellow Kossacks. Include your username so we can credit you, and send 'em in by 9:45pm Eastern to ensure they make the final diary.

These nominations are subjective, and certainly not complete (as no one can read the complete site on a daily basis!). But we hope they will serve to shine a light where deserved, and to give the reader a good starting point in finding conversation on the site.

Please come in and make yourself at home...

If I were a better woman, I'd have a diary of substance to present here. But alas, not tonite. Why? Three reasons- one serious but not directly to me, one fluffy, and one that I'll bet many of you are feeling. Let's start with that one first:

  1. Casa Brillig is running full-steam ahead getting ready for Netroots Nation!! Today I got a haircut and fixed Mr. Brillig and I up with a text-messaging plan for our phones so we don't get nailed for charges like we did last year. I loved each and every message, but at $.15/each, boy did we remember our time in Chicago.  Not as expensive as that glass of wine, however... :-).  I also went shopping for something new to wear (a girl's gotta have new clothes, right? :-)) and was pleasantly surprised to find I've dropped an entire size- almost two- since last year! I'm prepared with my orange and blue-wear, plus something nice to wear to PastorDan's service Sunday morning. All I need now is a fun pair of shoes! Came home and then got to thinking about...
  1. It's been a rough couple of days in the "health of people dear to me" category. My cousin K in the UK was diagnosed recently with metastatic pancreatic cancer. Then I learned that someone dear to a Second Life friend of mine likely is getting a cancer diagnosis today. So, I ended up in a melancholy headspace, and to clear my head so I could write I...
  1. Went into Second Life and got thoroughly distracted for several hours a while. I had some shoes to take pictures of for an upcoming NNSL "shoe diary" (stay tuned!) and I've been trying to help out as the amazing NNSL organizers get ready for the onslaught of Netroots folk! I then decided it was time to get myself another look... when being yourself is not enough, SL affords you the opportunity to be whoever or whatever you want! To go with my collection of avatars great and small, I am now... a white Pegasus!

I of course had to fly all over with my new wings, thus distracting me enough from the second that I was glad I'd done the first.. erm.. frist. If you're curious, I also spent time as a cheetah, a wolf, a tiny kangaroo, pizza, and yes, as me.

We still have to get the house ready for my inlaws to stay at while they take care of Kid Brillig, who is not coming to Austin. We lose three days of prep time though, 'cause KB is swimming in Dover NH for the weekend and we are staying up there rather than commute from Boston to the pool and back at 5am 3 days in a row. Trust me, it's not pretty that last day...

What's keeping you busy these days, and did it keep you from sending in comment nominations? I hope not!! Let's go check the TC mailbox:

From Carolita:

Night Train reminds us that failure to communicate isn't a new malady in The Baculum King's Goshdarnit! Hand Up and Drive!

From Yours Truly:

It's gchaucer2's birthday and the actions of our government aren't making her happy. martydd offers succinct words to remember.

In Devilstower's See No EPA, Speak No EPA, The Baculum King tells us how to spot nefarious actions, and it's easier than you think. Don't miss the ensuing thread, it's a fun read!

And last but not least we have Top Mojo (cskendrick/sardonyx-style), that list of best comments generated by the reccs you the DailyKos readership hand out during the day.
